Calahonda is an area belonging to the municipality of Mijas, located between Fuengirola and Marbella. Its name comes from Calahonda Beach, located opposite the Sitio de Calahonda Urbanization.
It’s the largest and most populated area of Mijas and includes the Sitio de Calahonda Urbanization, which covers the majority of the area and Calypso Urbanization. It has 27 kilometres of streets, almost 7,000 homes and lots of green areas. It is an ideal residential area with golf courses and large commercial areas which include restaurants, cafeterias, banks, supermarkets, etc.
Calahonda Beach, located at the western end, between Cabopino Port and El Bombo Beach in Mijas, is very well-known. It is 4,400 metres long with golden sand. It is classified as a semi-urban beach, and has both built-up areas with houses and beach restaurants, and more natural areas with thick vegetation. It is also a very well-equipped beach where all kinds of water sports can be practised, as well as fishing and snorkelling, and having a wooden walkway on the beach makes it ideal for a seaside stroll.
